Machinex has introduced a new sorting robot, the SamurAI Optima, a next-generation machine featuring advanced precision in a compact design. The SamurAI Optima is engineered to be the most space-efficient model in the Machinex robot series. Featuring redesigned components that deliver full-speed performance and effortless integration. Building on the success of the original SamurAI, the new optima model delivers the same powerful AI technology in a smaller design that lowers costs and installation time and allows for easier integration into a wider range of facilities.

Key features of the new SamurAI Optima include:

  • Robot cell mounted directly onto the conveyor
  • Installed in as little as one day
  • Reduced turnkey cost vs the original SamurAI sorting robot
  • No daily maintenance required
  • Redesigned vacuum system for consistent quality and longevity
  • Over 50 percent reduction in compressed air consumption compared to industry standards
  • Extremely quiet operation compared to market alternatives

The sorting applications of this newest sorting robot are numerous. It is designed to positively extract recyclable commodities from a specific stream of material (e.g., plastics from a reject line), as well as negatively sort a dedicated stream from all its contamination (e.g., PET quality control). It is highly efficient on multiple sorting lines such as aluminum, cartons, plastic films, large selection of plastic grades, and old corrugated containers.

"The SamurAI Optima is a game-changer for facilities looking to modernize without major infrastructure overhauls," said Chris Hawn, CEO at Machinex. "Designed for seamless integration with our Mach Intell business intelligence platform, the Optima can be installed as fast as 1 single day — cutting installation time by 50 percent or more. It's ideal for retrofits, offering a fast, cost-effective way to bring next-generation robotic precision to existing systems. Best of all, there's no compromise on performance — Optima delivers the same high-speed efficiency and reliability our customers expect from the SamurAI series"
