ReCommunity, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., has converted its dual stream MRF in Memphis, TN, to a single-stream recycling facility. The largest "pure-play" recycler in the United States, ReCommunity chose the CP Group to design, manufacture, and install the new equipment in its existing 42,000 sq. ft. building. New system operations began in January.

“We are committed to leading the Recovery Revolution™ for forward-thinking communities by repositioning waste as a strategic community resource instead of a growing liability,” says Sean Duffy, ReCommunity president and COO. “Our ability to create significant positive gains for our community partners hinges on leveraging world-class operational and design expertise for our facilities. Converting to single-stream makes recycling more convenient for residents and more likely to deliver economic, social and environmental impact for the community.”

The modernized and upgraded system will process glass, aluminum, steel, plastic, newspapers, magazines and cardboard.  Using the latest in CP Group technology, the system will automatically be able to capture OCC, PET bottles, cartons/aseptic containers, steel, aluminum and other materials. According to the CP Group, the single-stream upgrade of ReCommunity Memphis adds highly automated and technologically advanced machinery, resulting in less manual sorting and higher quality end-products.

“The challenge of designing this system was to incorporate the maximum amount of existing machinery while retrofitting the system to incorporate all of the new machinery in the same building footprint. We rose to the challenge, and what we have today in Memphis is a real state-of-the-art recycling single stream facility that is driving results,” says Hans Ouellet, VP Sales/Marketing, CP Group of Companies.

The system has a CP OCC Screen for pulling out cardboard; a CP NEWScreen and CPScreen for separating fibers form containers; 2 MSS Aladdin optical sorters for separating and recovering PET, cartons and mixed plastics 3-7; and Impact Air Airknife and Zig Zag Glass Cleaner.

With 35 facilities in 13 states, and more than 1,500 employees, ReCommunity is the largest pure-play recycling company in the United States. The company aims to lead a Recovery Revolution by repositioning waste as a strategic community resource instead of a growing liability.  And with the industry’s most advanced recycling facilities and educational outreach, ReCommunity enables its community partners to create additional revenue, create new jobs, and create a better future.
