Rotochopper Hosts 7th Annual Demo Day

New RotoLink system unveiled that allows customers to connect with their machines

Rotochopper, Inc. hosted their 7th annual Demo Day on September 13th. Approximately 120 customers and prospects from the US and Canada attended the event with the theme "See Red Go Green".  The day began with tours of the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, providing attendees the opportunity to see Rotochopper grinders in every stage of manufacture, from cutting to final inspection and testing. The facility tours also provided guests the opportunity to meet the teams who design, build, and support their Rotochopper equipment.

President/CEO Art de St. Aubin welcomed attendees with remarks focused on the partnership Rotochopper forms with its customers and discussing the initiatives the company is undertaking to further support those partnerships saying, "It is our honor and privilege to partner with you. Our long-term partnerships with customers are driven by Rotochopper's core values: loyalty, commitment, service, pride and community. We will continue to position ourselves to help your businesses succeed and differentiate ourselves from our competitors."

The demonstrations started with the unveiling of Rotochopper's prototype heavy duty B-66 track and dolly unit, with a 1050hp engine and upgraded infeed features enabling it to devour logs and whole trees. The 765 and 950 hp B-66, FP-66, MC-266 and MP-2 demonstrated converting raw materials into finished products throughout the day for attendees. Mini sessions demonstrated the new corn grinding option for the CP-118, silt sock attachment for the GB-250, and Rotochopper's patented screen installation system and replaceable mount rotor.

Rotochopper customer service unveiled the new RotoLink system which allows customers to connect with their machines and Rotochopper customer service to troubleshoot and track machine performance in real-time. The newly redesigned 24 tooth replaceable mount rotor with increased impact resistance and reduced side load during operation was on display. The day ended with a side by side demonstration of a B-66 and an FP-66 equipped with Rotochopper's Generation 2 Colorizer providing "Perfect in One Pass" coverage, while minimizing inputs like colorant and water usage.

Headquartered in St. Martin, MN, Rotochopper manufactures industrial wood waste grinding equipment including horizontal grinders, slow speed shredders and mobile baggers.

Canadian Government and the recycling industry have an opportunity to reset objectives and get back to basics on plastics recycling

Canadian Government and the recycling industry have an opportunity to reset objectives and get back to basics on plastics recycling

China's import restrictions and prohibitions on waste continue to disrupt markets around the world, causing a reassessment of entire value and supply chains. For far too long jurisdictions relied on foreign end-markets, and focused mostly on collection and sorting infrastructure without making parallel investments in domestic processing. Relying so heavily on a single market to process materials has made Canada and other nations vulnerable to losing material to disposal.

Ettlinger's ECO melt filters make fines almost one hundred percent recyclable

The fines which are created when PET bottles (left) are recycled contain up to 1.5% solid, gel-like or cross-linked contaminants. By incorporating Ettlinger's ECO high performance melt filters into the extrusion process, these substances can be continuously and almost completely removed from the melt (right).

Shredded and washed flakes are created - along with fines as the second fraction - when non-returnable PET bottles are recycled. These fines occur in large quantities and are hence a significant and valuable part of the PET cycle. However, as an input material they are difficult to handle on account of the very high proportion of paper, aluminum or PVC. The continuously operating, high performance melt filters in the Ettlinger ECO series are capable of removing high quality PET, even from such critical fractions, for subsequent reuse in the manufacture of complex products like clear thermoform sheets or packaging tape.

ISRI advocacy delivers for recyclers in latest tariff measures

As China and the United States continue to spar back and forth with new tariffs being imposed on key imports on goods from each country, the recycling industry has largely been spared. On Friday, the Trump Administration announced a final list of products from China that would be assessed a 25% import duty. Several equipment parts imported from China for use in recycling operations were included on a list of targets earlier this year, but removed after pressure from the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI).
