Camso's two new skid-steer tires outlast their predecessors by 30 percent

Camso, formerly Camoplast Solideal, continues to strengthen its construction tire portfolio with the launch of two next generation skid-steer tires.

As the leader in skid-steer tire solutions, Camso engineered these next generation tires based on a deep understanding of the specific needs of end users. They’re part of the widest range of skid-steer tires in the industry. The Camso SKS 753 provides versatility and optimal durability on mixed and hard surfaces, while the Camso SKS 532 delivers superior traction on soft soil surfaces.

The construction industry has evolved over the years. General jobs have become more specialized and the skid steer’s versatility has been able to respond to this reality. As applications become more specialized so should the tires that work in them. “We believe productivity and profitability can be maximized when you choose the right tire for your application,” says Mike Dembe, Product Management Director, North America and Latin America – Construction. “Beyond offering the widest range of tires, OTT and rubber tracks, having the best solution to suit any particular application is what is really driving us.”

Building on past innovations, the Camso SKS 753 and SKS 532 are the fourth and fifth skid-steer tires Camso has launched since January 2015. All of which are built with features that increase tire performance and overall durability.

This bias-ply, pneumatic tire is the perfect tire for rental fleets and other mixed and hard surfaces. Its innovative, non-directional tread pattern optimizes durability and versatility. Its high lug-to-void ratio provides excellent wear and puncture resistance on hard surfaces, while its stepped shoulder lugs improve traction on softer surfaces.

The Camso SKS 753 is the next generation of the Solideal Hauler SKZ and will outlast it by 30 percent.

The Camso SKS 532 delivers superior traction on soft soil

Traction is essential for productivity in soft soils and for digging deeper into the pile. Designed for optimum performance on general-duty, mixed-soft surfaces like Construction and Landscaping applications, the bias-ply Camso SKS 532 improves both traction and durability with its extra-deep directional tread and curved lugs. Its unique stepped tread pattern provides excellent mud cleanout and comes with a Void Guard to reinforce and protect the carcass to prevent punctures and minimize flats.

The Camso SKS 532 surpasses its predecessor, the Solideal Xtra Wall, with 30 percent longer life.

To protect against sidewall damage, both new tires incorporate Camso’s reverse sidewall design with impact guard to deflect objects and debris away from the tire. This feature better protects the product from sidewall damage working to extend its life and contributes to a lower operating cost solution.

Bridgestone Americas, Inc. has announced the expansion of its off-the-road (OTR) product portfolio to include a new size of the Bridgestone VSMS2 tire. The tire is now available in size 29.5R25 in the U.S. and Canada. Designed for underground mining, landfill and salvage environments, the Bridgestone VSMS2 tire delivers a 30 percent decrease in the frequency of sidewall cuts, improving the tire's overall life cycle performance by five percent.

Alliance Tire launches new line of rugged Galaxy OTR tires

Alliance Tire Americas, Inc. (ATA) launched a rugged, new line of Galaxy brand radial off-the-road (OTR) tires at Waste Expo in Las Vegas. Built for the special demands placed on loaders, dozers, backhoes, foklifts, articulated dump trucks and graders, the Galaxy radial OTR line features all-steel radial construction for puncture resistance and reduced heat buildup, as well as special compound for longer service life, according to Brian Sheehey, Vice President of Marketing for ATA. The result is a line of tires that deliver outstanding performance and a lower total cost of ownership.

Selecting the Right Solid Tires for Industry Specific Applications

Approximately twenty years ago, those of us working in the off-road heavy equipment industry regularly witnessed a high amount of failures in machines operating on cement or other hard surfaces. Extended steel rims were used with small, hard, rubber wheels. When these rubber tires chipped and chunked, vibrations and bouncing sent shockwaves into the machine, causing shortened life and expensive repairs, not to mention stress on operators. Drivetrain components (U-joints and articulation joints) in particular often suffered from stress cracks caused by vibrations and a bouncing machine. 

​When To Replace Forklift Forks

The forklift fork is often overlooked and under-inspected. Many are unaware of how often one should inspect their forks, and how to inspect them. Federal law (OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1910.178) mandates that forklift forks which see around-the-clock use should be inspected on a per-operation basis. As part of a pre-operation inspection, forklift forks should ideally be inspected for signs of cracks, bends, excessive wear or damage to either the fork tine or the positioning lock when using an ITA mounted fork.

Tier 4 mandates driving demand for used non-Tier 4 equipment market

According to a recent survey of Independent Equipment Dealers Association (IEDA) members, the EPA’s Tier 4 mandates are driving up the demand of non-Tier 4, used construction equipment and predicts this trend will continue for the next several years. For many equipment categories, used equipment availability is outpacing demand, but for other categories, including excavators, backhoe loaders, wheel loaders, dump trucks dozers and compact equipment, IEDA members are seeing resale pricing increase by as much as 20 percent. Also, more than 50 percent of survey respondents noted that quality used equipment is getting harder to find.
