At the end of 2011, recycling equipment manufacturer Sherbrooke-OEM and German-based Matthiessen Lagertechnik announced the formation of a distribution partnership that will bring Matthiessen’s recycling technology to North America.
Until this partnership was established, Matthiessen had been supplying bag openers, since 1992, to recycling facilities worldwide, except for North America. Under the new arrangement, Sherbrooke-OEM will manufacture the bunker/conveyor system as well as control panels, and will source motors and electrical components locally. Matthiessen will supply their proprietary mechanisms.
In addition to a long history of bag-opener production, Matthiessen also has developed a film grabber device to work in concert with the bag-opener. The film grabber removes most of the plasic film from the recycle processing line without any manual effort.
According to Sherbrooke-OEM, the combination provides an energy efficient alternative to conventional shredding and reduces the cross-contamination of recyclable materials in the process stream.
