After more than a year of rigorous design review and extensive in-field testing, Morbark' 3800XL Horizontal Grinder is not simply an incremental extension of the 3800 platform - this new grinder contains significant changes and improvements in feeding technology which dramatically increases production capacity and operating efficiency. The primary difference between this unit and all others is its redesigned reverse-pivot feed system which minimizes space between the feed wheel and the hammermill. There is no place for material to hide in this unit, which keeps debris moving forward with uninterrupted, steady production. The Morbark 3800XL is available with a variety of engine choices up to 800 hp. “It’s like our old Morbark 4600 on steroids!” said Gord Edwards of Windsor Disposal Services. “We’re getting substantially more production with better fuel efficiency, and the new remote makes it very easy to dial in exactly the speed we need to keep the belt full all the time. It’s so user friendly and easy to adjust, we can focus on keeping it full and filling trailers.” Morbark also recently introduced it’s new Advantage 3 high performance chipping drum, which significantly improves chip- quality in large volume wood chipping equipment and reduces recurring wear-part and maintenance costs approximately 70 percent, to just a fraction of the cost of conventional chipping drums. Most of the significant changes on these units were made to the pocket, knife, and knife-holding assembly where the chips are formed and cut, and where maintenance and wear costs are incurred. The new design includes increased clamping force and more durable knives with increased number of possible sharpening occurrences – with extended time and production in between each sharpening. To increase momentum and drum performance, changes were also made to the drum shaft to reduce stress and increase durability. The Advantage 3 drum is available on all new Morbark drum chippers and can be ordered as a retrofit to any existing Morbark Drum Chipper.
