Scrap magnets updated

Winkle Industries has introduced a new line-up of deep field scrap magnets, developed with the latest version of the company’s computer modeling software. OptiMag “D-Series” lifting magnets for scrap recyclers bring engineering upgrades to two model ranges; the DSA deep-field aluminum scrap magnets and the EDSA extra-deep field aluminum scrap magnets. The new upgraded OptiMag models are designed to offer increased lifting capacity with lighter weight magnets.

DSA and EDSA scrap magnets are recommended for fixed and mixed loads in heavy-duty, high production scrap-handling applications, and provide a large lifting surface and reduced total weight to best utilize a crane’s load-lifting capacity.

According to Winkle, these new magnets are the result of an end-to-end redesign and enhancement program enabled by recent refinements to the company’s proprietary in-house developed engineering software.

Standard D-series models range from 34 inches to 100 inches in diameter. Weights have been reduced by as much as 10 percent and lifting capacities have increased up to 15 percent from the previous line-up. These magnets are designed to achieve at least 75 percent duty cycles in continuous 24/7 operation, and feature strap-wound coils, which enables recovery of some or all of the initial cost of the aluminum coils, if the need to rebuild a used magnet arises.

Winkle also recently introduced their updated OptiMag “L-Series” of lifting magnets for scrap recyclers, as well as a re-engineered line-up of its G-series scrap magnets developed for use with standard makes of scrap handling grapples.
