High production car logger achieves up to 28 tons per hour

The RB6000 Baler/Logger is the highest production car logger in the world, according to its manufacturer, Sierra International Machinery. It is designed to easily handle car bodies, white goods, loose tin and bulky items at rates up to 28 tons per hour.

The RB6000 can be mounted on a three axle trailer or skid-mounted with hydraulic legs. Loading is done with a continuous rotation crane mounted on the unit that operates independent of the logger. The crane has a reach of 26 feet 3 inches and at full extension has a lifting capacity of 5,000 pounds. A full rotation, four-point orange peel grapple is standard equipment, and a built-in oil recovery system collects any fluids that leak out during the baling/logging process.

Power is provided by a Cummins 6BT5.9, six-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 150 hp and can run on bio-diesel. A curved-door box design easily folds material into the baling chamber where it can produce logs up to 40 inches by 24 inches, by variable lengths.

The unit’s high-pressure hydraulic system features a Rexroth variable displacement pump that produces automatic, fast cycle times, and two main compression rams have more than 170 tons of force each. Plus, six cylinders operate the folding box, with more than 264 tons per side. Depending on material, logs will average 1,200 to 1,400 pounds, which Sierra says is ideal for processing by shredders or for filling an export container. Typical production for baling operations is 12 to 16 tons per hour, with logging of 18 to 22 tons per hour and automobile logging of 22 to 28 tons per hour.
