As of October 1st, 2011, British Columbians can recycle their used or broken small appliances at over 100 convenient drop-off locations through a new and unique program called Unplugged, the Small Appliance Recycling Program.
As of April 1, 2011, the Canadian Electrical Stewardship Association (CESA) began phasing in its Small Appliance Recycling Program in British Columbia, which is the first of its kind in North America, and will see depots ready to receive small appliances beginning August 1, 2011 (updated from July 1, 2011, and in conjunction with the start-date for collection of program fees.)
The BC Small Appliances stewardship program, the first of its kind in Canada, officially began on April 1, 2011. The program is in accordance with a plan filed by the Canadian Electrical Stewardship Association (CESA). The Electronics and Electrical Product Category (Schedule 3) in the Recycling Regulation includes a category for small appliances.
