In-vessel system

In-vessel system
The X-ACT In-vessel Compost-ing System is designed as a lower cost, cleaner, and more energy efficient way of managing waste, compared to a system using a windrow turner. The X-ACT system achieves total aerobic composting using a rotating (or tumbling) enclosed, vessel. It does not pollute the air or ground water, and produces no leachate or run-off that could pollute underground water tables. The composting drum on these units is turned by a low horsepower electric motor. A 10-foot diameter by 32-foot long drum, rotating 30 tons of manure, 10 times per hour, will do so using a 7.5-hp motor. Or, a bigger 10-foot diameter by 72-foot long drum uses only a 10-hp motor – turning 60 tons, 10 times per hour. Key features include: VOC and odour control; no problems with weather; easily maintained temperatures; and no problem with stress fractures, common with many traditional in-vessel systems. The vessel is constructed in eight-foot modules, and uses a centre drive with a low horsepower industrial eurodrive.
