Republic Services breaks ground on St. Louis Recycling Center
Serving approximately 3 million residents across the greater St. Louis region, the facility will streamline material recovery

Republic Services, Inc. broke ground on a new state-of-the-art recycling centre in Bridgeton. The 105,000-square-foot St. Louis Recycling Center, expected to open in 2028, will serve businesses and approximately 3 million residents across Greater St. Louis and surrounding communities.
The new facility will have the capacity to process up to 45 tons — or nine truckloads — of recyclables per hour and feature advanced technology, including optical sorters and artificial intelligence (AI) systems, to maximize the recovery of recyclable materials.
Republic Services celebrated the new facility with a ceremonial groundbreaking
Republic Services leaders were joined by representatives from the State of Missouri, St. Louis County, City of St. Louis, City of Bridgeton, community leaders, and project partners to kick off the project and celebrate the facility's role in supporting economic growth, resource recovery, and sustainability throughout the region.
"This project is a major investment in the future of recycling throughout Greater St. Louis and reinforces Republic Services' commitment to advancing circularity and sustainability," said Gregg Brummer, chief operating officer. "We appreciate the support we've received for this project from the City of Bridgeton and our project partners, and look forward to opening this facility in 2028."
The new recycling centre is expected to create up to 200 full-time construction jobs during development. Once operational, the facility will have approximately 60 full-time positions. Republic Services currently has more than 1,000 employees in Missouri.
