The US Composting Council (USCC) has launched two national benchmark surveys to better understand current compost trends and future growth patterns. The transportation and landscape/development surveys will study current compost usage and perception in key emerging end markets.

Research is essential to identify future growth patterns in the industry

The initiative is part of a broader effort to gather insights directly from professionals who influence decisions related to stormwater management, erosion control, soil performance, and site development. With a deeper understanding of current awareness, adoption barriers, specifications, and performance perceptions, USCC aims to identify opportunities to expand compost use in sectors with growth potential.

  • Compost use in transportation projects targets transportation agencies, public works professionals, engineers, stormwater managers, and contractors.
  • Compost use in landscape and development projects targets landscape architects, designers, developers, contractors, and related professionals.

Findings from the surveys will help inform future educational resources, technical guidance, outreach efforts, and market development tools designed to support compost adoption in these sectors.

USCC is encouraging its network of compost manufacturers, marketers, and industry partners to help distribute the surveys through their professional networks. Broad participation will help ensure the findings accurately reflect the experiences and perspectives of personnel making decisions about compost use in real-world projects.

The surveys should take approximately three minutes to complete and will remain open through July 17, 2026. Findings will be shared through future reports, educational materials, and a webinar highlighting key insights and market opportunities.
