MSS simplifies maintenance for optical sorting machines with a redesigned hood
The upgrade supports system accuracy and heightened detection performance over time

MSS, Inc. has redesigned the hood configuration on its NIR and AI optical sorting systems, featuring an integrated maintenance access platform. The upgrade enables safer, convenient maintenance access in the hood while retaining the hood's patented material control features. The redesigned hood incorporates a stable, integrated platform that provides direct access to key serviceable aspects.
Optical sorting accuracy is directly dependent on lens and lighting clarity; degraded light bar conditions are a well-documented contributor to declining detection performance over time. The redesign is intended to support consistent preventive maintenance practices and sustained system accuracy and performance.
"This isn't a cosmetic change — it's a response to our customers' needs," said Patrick Nicol, vice president of Systems and Support, CP Group. "Maintenance access directly affects how often service gets done correctly and on schedule. The easier and safer that process is, the better the system performs over its operational life."
The integrated platform is designed to reduce total maintenance downtime, lower long-term maintenance risk, and improve total cost of ownership for MRF operators.
The upgrade is now available for new installations. For technical specifications or to discuss integration with existing systems, contact MSS, Inc.
