WM develops Canadian workforce with dedicated training centre
The bilingual training facility located in Brampton, Ontario, supports the safety, development, and long-term success of drivers and technicians

WM has announced the opening of its first bilingual, Canada-based Training Centre, a dedicated national hub designed to support the safety, development, and long-term success of Canadian drivers and technicians. Located within WM's Hauling Facility in Brampton, Ontario, the Canada Training Centre reflects the company's continued investment in its people and operations across the country.
The Canada Training Centre provides a purpose-built environment for hands-on learning, combining classroom instruction with real-world training. The centre will serve teams from across Canada, supporting consistent safety practices, technical skills development, and operational standards. The first group of trainees successfully completed the program, with the inaugural class graduating on April 30, 2026.
"This Training Centre represents an important milestone for our team in Canada," said Tracy Black, president, WM Canada. "By investing in a centralized, Canada-specific training environment, we are reinforcing our commitment to safety, supporting our frontline employees and helping ensure they have the skills, confidence and resources they need to succeed — today and over the long term."
Adding new training capabilities at existing facilities
The Canada Training Centre was created by repurposing approximately 3,800 square feet of existing facility space, including converting two service bays into dedicated technician training areas. The remodel includes modern classrooms, trainer workspaces, and upgraded lighting and branding to support an engaging and functional learning environment.
The site also features a structured driver training course within the yard, along with enhanced safety elements, including designated pedestrian walkways, traffic-calming measures, and clearly defined training zones. These features are designed to reflect typical operating conditions while maintaining a controlled, safety-focused environment.
The Training Centre supports WM Canada's broader workforce development and safety objectives by helping to create a more consistent frontline onboarding and training experience. Training is delivered in both of Canada's official languages, combining classroom learning, hands-on instruction, and scenario-based training led by experienced trainers, helping employees return to their home sites with strong foundational skills and a shared approach to safety and operations.
As part of WM's ongoing investment in people, the Canada Training Centre is designed to evolve over time, supporting future cohorts and additional training programs to reflect the needs of WM's diverse Canadian workforce.
The Canada Training Centre aligns with WM's people-first culture and long-term focus on investing in frontline teams, strengthening safety performance, and supporting continued growth across its Canadian operations.
