SWANA partners with Fire Rover to advance battery safety and mitigate fire hazards
The partnership will focus on data sharing, education, and joint programming to address risks associated with lithium-ion batteries

The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) has collaborated with its newest corporate partner, Fire Rover, to address the growing risks associated with lithium-ion batteries and fire safety in the waste and resource management industry.
This strategic partnership will focus on data sharing, education, and joint programming to mitigate fire hazards and improve safety standards across the sector. Fire Rover, a fire detection and suppression technology company, will work closely with SWANA's Safety Committee and Battery Workgroup to share actionable insights and updates from its extensive fire incident data.
Educational initiatives
In a unique educational initiative, SWANA will contribute two pages to Fire Rover's upcoming children's book, "Supercharged," which aims to teach young readers about battery safety and fire prevention in an engaging and accessible format.
SWANA and Fire Rover will collaborate on other educational initiatives, including a dedicated battery education and data collection webpage and articles to raise awareness and promote best practices in fire safety management. Fire Rover will exhibit and participate in SWANA's upcoming annual conference, RCon, taking place in Columbus, Ohio, November 12-15, 2025. The partnership also includes joint development of webinars, expanded member engagement opportunities, and memberships for Fire Rover staff.
"This partnership reflects our shared commitment to protecting workers, facilities, and communities from the dangers posed by improperly disposed lithium-ion batteries," said Amy Lestition Burke, MA, FASAE, CAE, CEO of SWANA. "By combining Fire Rover's real-time data and expertise with SWANA's educational reach and policy leadership, we're creating a powerful alliance for change."
Ryan Fogelman, Fire Rover's vice president of Fire Protection Services, shared, "We're excited to deepen our relationship with SWANA and contribute to meaningful solutions. Our data shows the urgency of this issue, and together we can drive safer practices and smarter policies."
