WENDT CORPORATION commissioned a WENDT Model 106 HEAVY shredding plant with an emission control system at PNW Metal Recycling. The installation represents one of the most environmentally progressive and technologically advanced shredding facilities in North America, setting a new standard for safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
The history and future of PNW Metal Recycling
Longview, Washington-based PNW Metal Recycling handles a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals across seven facilities in Washington and Oregon. As a multi-family, multi-generational business with roots dating back to the 1960s, PNW implements efficient technologies, promotes environmental stewardship, adheres to best-practice plant operations, and delivers exceptional service.
PNW previously operated a smaller shredder that hindered production and was not ideally located for its bulk loading operations. Seeking greater efficiency, increased capacity, and compliance with strict regional emissions requirements, PNW turned to WENDT to deliver a solution that met all operational, environmental, and regulatory needs.
The result is a fully integrated shredding system designed for safety, reliability, and sustainability. The new facility features a fully enclosed WENDT Model 106 HEAVY Shredder powered by a 6,000-horsepower motor with variable frequency drive (VFD), paired with a complete emissions control system. This system captures, filters, and measures one hundred percent of what is emitted by the shredder.
The shredding system incorporates a low-copper shred downstream for superior product quality and a poker picker for unshreddable removal. Also included is WENDT's new shredder operating software, WENDTOS, that provides real-time insights into production, performance, and maintenance data.

"Environmental stewardship and regulations within our region led us to acquire specific control equipment for the larger shredder, which WENDT was the only shredder manufacturer that offered a full service of design and equipment for sale," said Sean Daoud, vice president of PNW. "WENDT aided in the process of obtaining all state permits necessary before purchasing the equipment as well as providing engineered drawings to our contractor for construction."
