CARI's 72nd Annual Convention coming up -- June 20-22 in Halifax
CARI’s 2013 Convention is coming up quickly. This year's show, taking place June 20-22 at the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel, Halifax Nova Scotia, is the 72nd Annual event and is entitled: “A SEA OF OPPORTUNITY”.
The Saturday afternoon Industry Panel will provide delegates with an informed overview of the status of the copper, aluminum, and ferrous industries, as well as their respective challenges and outlooks. Delegates will also have the chance to engage in discussions with our outstanding panel of speakers including Jason Schenker, Michael Marley and Fred Hauptstueck.
Additionally, a multitasking panellist Jason Schenker will be speaking on both the copper and aluminum markets. He has been ranked one of the most accurate metals price and economic forecasters in the world by Bloomberg News since founding Prestige Economics, LLC in 2009. Mr. Schenker advises companies, industry organizations, and central banks. He is the author of the book Commodity Prices 101, and he produced the North American scrap market benchmarking report entitled “Be the Shredder, Not the Shred.” He previously held roles with McKinsey and Company as a Risk Specialist, as well as with Wachovia Corporation as the Chief Energy and Commodity Economist. Mr. Schenker is also a Guest Host of the show “Street Smart” on Bloomberg Television.
Michael Marley has more than 35 years’ experience in the metals industry, reporting ferrous and nonferrous scrap prices and news. Currently he is a correspondent-ferrous scrap for MetalPrices.com and author of the Marley’s Heavy Melt report, a weekly newsletter focused on ferrous scrap markets and prices. He joined the online metals pricing and news service in February of this year after a brief stint with World Steel.
Fred Hauptstueck has served as Manager of Ferrous Procurement for Steel Dynamics, Inc. & OmniSource Corporation for the last four years. Prior to his current role, Fred joined the company in 2003 as a Credit Manager at their start-up SBQ bar mill in Pittsboro Indiana. He then transitioned to the ferrous procurement team in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he served as a Scrap Buyer for four years.
