Indexator expands XR hydraulic rotator range

Smaller XR 300 model designed for both rigid and dangle mounting slew bearings in applications from scrap to forestry and oil & gas

Indexator has launched a smaller model, the XR 300, as part of the company's XR range of hydraulic rotators. The XR range comprises compact, powerful rotators with heavy-duty bearings, designed for extreme applications where rotator function requirements and load capacities are especially high. Units are optimally designed for both rigid and dangle mounting slew bearings, high performance and long service life, for handling large loads.

The new XR 300 is designed to handle both positive and negative axial loads up to 9 tonnes. The model is also built for a radial load tolerance of 7 tonnes and is thus ideal for applications with high side loads such as rigid mounting sorting grapples on excavators, or dangle mounting, ideal for application in  scrap or timber handling, as well as oil & gas applications.

In common with other models in the XR series, the XR 300 has a patented torque transfer design. "In a nutshell, the technology means the swivel and motor are not affected by external forces, which provides major service life benefits compared to competing solutions," says Johnny Karlsson, Area Sales Manager at Indexator. Thanks to the XR-series' patented torque transfer solution, external forces acting on the bearings do not affect the motor and swivel inside the Rotator. This extends service life significantly in comparison with competing solutions.

Another feature that benefits service life is Indexator's tried-and-tested vane motor - the only compact rotator on the market using this principle. While the vane motor provides high torque, it is also very forgiving in case of forced roation and large slewing masses. The modular design with slew bearings, motor and swivel in separate modules, makes service and maintenance easy. "There's never room for unscheduled downtime anywhere rotators are used. Because they simply have to keep on working, hour after hour, high reliability is just as important as high-performance," says Johnny Karlsson.

To make sure the XR 300 can do the job, it has been rigorously tested, both in a test environment and in the real-world scenario's machines and tools encounter. The result is a rotator with long service life that delivers performance every day.

The XR 300 is a rotator size eagerly awaited by customers, and market demand is high, especially from the customers who saw the rotator's benefits when they participated in the prototype tests. Indexator will begin series production at the end of the year and as of January 2019, the XR 300 will be in full production.

"There is great demand from machine manufacturers and every possibility that this size segment will be the largest in the entire XR series in terms of volume," says Karlsson. The XR range is available in several sizes and models with different bolt patterns and extra channels for central lubrication and cable pass through.

Composting Council Research Education Foundation releases report on soluble salts in compost

Compost contains a multitude of essential nutrients for plant growth, such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), and can also be a source of organic matter. However, recent concerns and criticisms have been directed toward composts with a high concentration of soluble salts. Soluble salts refer to the amount of soluble ions, such as calcium (Ca2+), potassium (K+), magnesium (Mg2+) and sodium (Na+), present in compost. Soluble salts are measured indirectly and cumulatively through electrical conductivity (EC).

Goudsmit builds magnets for iron-free carbon black

Goudsmit builds magnets for iron-free carbon black

Goudsmit recently built two magnets to be used for the production of iron-free carbon black by a large European manufacturer. These self-cleaning, rotating magnets remove iron particles as small as 30 microns from the very dry, poorly flowing conductive carbon black used for lithium-ion batteries. It is essential that this product is 100% metal-free, because metal particles would change the conductivity. In this line, the rotating magnets process at a relatively low capacity of 1500 kg per hour. If necessary, however, such magnets can process at  capacities of up to 40 m3 per hour.

BASF making products with chemically recycled plastics for first time

Dr. Stefan Gräter and Dr. Andreas Kicherer showing a sample of pyrolysis oil and thus produced plastic in front of the Steamcracker.

BASF is breaking new ground in plastic waste recycling with its ChemCycling project. Chemical recycling provides an innovative way to reutilize plastic waste that is currently not recycled, such as mixed or uncleaned plastics. Depending on the region, such waste is usually sent to landfill or burned with energy recovery. But chemical recycling offers another alternative: Using thermochemical processes, these plastics can be utilized to produce syngas or oils. The resulting recycled raw materials can be used as inputs in BASF's production, thereby partially replacing fossil resources.
