Progressive Waste Solutions opens new MRF in Calgary
Machinex provides 1,000 tonnes per day system
Machinex is the system provider for a new Material Recycling Facility (MRF) in Calgary, Alberta, which opened on November 26th. Machinex says they are very proud to have been selected to participate in this greenfield development by Progressive Waste Solutions, one of North America’s largest full-service waste management companies.
The new Progressive Waste facility is made up of two Machinex systems. The first consists of dual transfer compactors with remote power packs which have the capacity to load 1,000 tonnes per day of MSW. The second system is a commercial MRF consisting of in-feed conveyor system, pre-sort, double deck adjustable OCC screen, sort conveyor over multiple bunkers with a finishing trommel to end the line. A 95-foot reclaim conveyor with two raised quality control sorting stations feeds a 200-HP Enterprise baler.
Machinex says their system will allow a greatly increased material throughput while maintaining very high commodity quality and that it is designed to be easily expandable to accommodate commercial single stream material. The company also paid particular attention to ensure the continuity of having the highest levels of worker safety. The results of the system are a greatly increased throughput capacity while maintaining a high level of commodity quality.
According to Machinex, theeir latest system was designed to create a new and modern MRF that meets current processing needs, with maximum flexibility to grow and adapt to the waste diversion needs of the future in Calgary.
The installation of the equipment began on October 20th and the complete new system became operational on November 26th.
Jonathan Abrams, Manager of Waste Diversion Initiatives at Progressive Waste Solutions, says, “The entire Machinex team was extremely flexible and responsive throughout all facets of their involvement in this project. At the preliminary design stage, Machinex demonstrated creativity to meet our processing goals and budgetary requirements.
"The Machinex installation team really took the installation and commissioning of this project on their shoulders and went above and beyond to ensure that the system was ready to run from day one.”
