I-SENS sensor separators

Goudsmit system designed for use before or after an ECS

I-SENS sensor separators

The I-SENS sensor separator is a recent development from Goudsmit Magnetic Systems BV. This system can be used to replace hand pickers, and is designed to supplement the separation of metals before or after an eddy current separator. The I-SENS removes metals such as stainless steel, lead and copper wire that EC separators cannot remove, as well as other metals in a given flow.

The I-SENS’ sensitivity can be adjusted for desired results and units can be used in various recyclable product flows such as WEEE, incinerator slag, refuse, wood, and car shredder residue. The result is a quality improvement of clean finished product, plus additional yield of valuable metal such as stainless steel.

The unit’s separation principle consists of a conveyor belt in which an inductive sensor plate is mounted just before the end roll. This sensor plate will detect a metal particle as well as the line where this metal particle is on the belt. Next, the software will calculate the exact location, and the metal particle will be shot from the flow with an air pulse in its free dropping curve and dumped behind a separation partition.

According to Goudsmit, a high degree of separation and purity of the separated metals are the result, with percentages between 85 and 95 percent, depending on the offered material flow and capacity.
