​Plastics Recyclers Europe working on characterization of recycled PE-LD pellets to enhance demand for recyclates

Plastic Recyclers Europe and VKC-CENTEXBEL have been collaborating on the elaboration characterisation of recycled PE-LD pellets, which provides a framework for the quality assessment of the pellets. The current work aims at enhancing demand for recycled plastics by providing standardized methods to evaluate quality based on EU standards.

Plastics Recyclers Europe announces revised design-for-recycling guidelines for polyolefin packaging

An updated version of Design for Recycling Guidelines developed by Plastics Recyclers Europe is now available. The amended guidelines differentiate between the coloured and non-coloured polyolefin packaging. In addition, the guidelines will soon be integrated into the RecyClass tool. Thoughtful packaging design, which takes into consideration the functionality of a product, its carbon footprint and in parallel its end-of-life, is one of the backbones of the circular economy model. It is also a necessary step for increasing quality recycling.

European Plastics Recycling show rescheduled for March, 2016

Organizers of the Plastics Recycling Show Europe exhibition and conference, which had to be postponed in November due to a security alert in Brussels, have announced that the event has been rescheduled to take place on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 March 2016 at the new venue of Brussels Expo.

Plastics Recyclers Europe comments on increased collection

According to Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) new data on plastics waste management[1] shows important growth in plastics waste collection in Europe. This sudden increase of plastics collection is welcome news, as the organization says this is an essential step towards plastics recycling, and could be proof that higher recycling rates are more achievable and realistic than expected, with the latest study suggesting a 60% recycling rate for plastic [2].

Plastics recyclers support the EU Parliament strategy on plastics waste

On the 14th January the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) adopted the European Strategy on plastic waste (Prodi Report on an EU Strategy for plastics waste).  According to Plastics Recyclers Europe (www.plasticsrecyclers.eu) the resolution adopted by the MEPs will pave the way for more plastics recycling, and the backing of the European Parliament will enable the Commission to propose ambitious legislations.
