Recycling sector has potential to contribute $1.4 billion to Alberta economy

Alberta's recycling sector generated $700 million in economic value in 2018, as well as supporting over 7,500 direct jobs, a new analysis has found. The analysis also highlights the potential to increase this contribution in future to $1.4 billion in economic value, and to 13,000 jobs. In addition to the benefits to the Alberta economy, materials collected in Alberta that are processed and utilized in neighbouring jurisdictions provide additional jobs in those areas which were not included in the study.

Four of Canada's major provincial waste reduction and recycling organizations (Recycling Council of BC, Recycling Council of Alberta, Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council and Recycling Council of Ontario) have announced their official support for the Government of Canada's announcement regarding plans to reduce Canada's plastic waste, support innovation, and promote the use of affordable and safe alternatives.

Upcoming Recycling Council of Alberta conference to feature Edmonton Waste Management Centre advanced energy research facility seminar and tour

The Recycling Council of Alberta (RCA) annual waste reduction conference, "Recycling Means Business", will feature an on-site seminar and tour at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre that will provide a detailed look at the Advanced Energy Research Facility. This facility includes a new Integrated Processing and Transfer Facility, as well as a Waste-to-Biofuels Facility, which is currently under construction. According to the RCA, this event is expected to attract solid waste professionals and media from across the nation.
