The 45 metric ton Chipmunk metal compactor bri-quettor, along with the larger 125 metric ton model, are designed as energy-efficient, high-output systems for compacting aluminum and steel/ductile iron chips. Both models are designed compact, deliver up to an 8:1 compaction ratio, and utilize a hydraulically-driven infeed auger that separates most unwanted solids from chips prior to the compacting cycle. The Chipmunk uses minimal power and produces up to 50,000 psi compaction force, transforming metalworking chips into dense, dry pucks.

Kurt Manufacturing introduced its new 45 metric ton Chipmunk metal compactor briquettor at the International Manufacturing Technology Show, held in Chicago this past September. This new model, along with a recently introduced, larger 125-metric-ton model, are the company’s most energy-efficient, high-output systems for compacting aluminum and steel/ductile iron chips. Both models utilize a hydraulically-driven infeed auger that separates most unwanted solids from chips prior to the compacting cycle, and are designed with a unique mechanical kinetic energy drive. In comparison to 50 horsepower and up for hydraulically-driven compactor systems, the Chipmunk utilizes only a fraction of the power, yet produces up to 50,000 psi compaction force, transforming metalworking chips into dense, dry pucks. Pucks are then automatically discharged from chute to container, and are ready for shipment to the recycler. A fl oor tray holds recovered coolant.
