Trailer communication system

Trailer communication system

East flatbed, refuse and dump trailers can now communicate critical intelligent data to the driver through an optional Power Line Carrier (PLC) communication system that utilizes MeritorWABCO Vehicle Control Systems’ Infolink Gateway communications capabilities. From an in-cab screen, drivers can monitor several trailer systems, including air system pressure and load weight. With dump trailers, drivers can also tell from their cab if the trailer bed is completely down and cradled and if the tailgate is closed and latched.

Smooth-bottom trailers

Smooth-bottom trailers

Smooth bottom Genesis II floor technology is now available for East frame-type dump trailers. Genesis II frame dump trailers offer the advantage of a totally smooth bottom that improves aerodynamic performance, while simplifying maintenance and eliminating exposed cross-members where ice, mud and snow can build up. The Genesis II floor uses floor panel extrusions with internal stiffeners made of a new aluminum alloy that is stronger and more wear-resistant. This design also reduces the likelihood of loads freezing in the trailer, and allows a unitized wall-to-floor construction.

For ease of customer identification and ordering we’re calling it the East Smart-Trailer system. The new system can be added on new trailers for the price of an in-cab screen, a few sensors, and the harnessing to connect to the PLC-compatible ECU. Working with MeritorWABCO we have been able to implement the system spe-cific to East trailers so that it only takes a small investment to receive huge operational benefits,” said Pierce.

New bumpers increase service life of transfer trailers

New bumpers increase service life of transfer trailers

Steel bumpers are now standard equipment on all East live-floor and tipper transfer trailers. These new bolt-on bumpers provide additional strength and protection for the refuse and materials trailer, especially in a landfill or recycling environment, increasing the overall service life of the trailer. For East live-floor trailers, the bumper incorporates a slope plate designed to interface with the kinds of equipment – typically a dozer – used to push transfer trailers when they encounter muddy or sloppy conditions. For East tipper trailers, the bumper has built-in rubber pads designed to reduce the stress and impact where the trailer interfaces with a tipping platform. The bolt-on design utilizes special connectors to inhibit galvanic corrosion. East transfer trailers are available in Genesis fuel-efficient smooth-side, or classic sheet-and-post sidewall construction. Both versions are available as tipping platform or live-floor systems.
