Scrap industry safety manual now available

Developed by ISRI, CARI to distribute in Canada

Scrap industry safety manual now available

From 2004 to 2007, more people died in U.S. recycling facilities, per capita, than in mines, construction and fire fighting. In light of this statistic, earlier this year, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) released a safety manual which was developed to accomplish one specific goal: to assist those in the scrap industry in making their operations a healthy and safe place for employees, customers, and visitors.

According to ISRI, the new safety manual was written for the scrap industry by the scrap industry, and combines health and safety tools, tips, and techniques developed from real-life health and safety directors who have years of experience working in scrap operations.

In Canada, the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries, which works closely with ISRI, recently purchased the rights to the new manual. It has now been modified to reflect the Canadian scrap industry and is available from CARI. A French version is expected to be distributed by the end of 2010.
