China continues to increase share of recovered paper trade

According to RISI, Inc. a leading information provider for the global forest products industry (www.risi.com), China continues to increase their share of the global recovered paper trade in 2010.

The company says that over two-thirds of recovered paper exported from the U.S. goes to China (representing approximately 13 million tons), and that Chinese paper and board mills import another 17 million tonnes of recovered paper from the rest of the world annually. RISI says China accounts for about 54 percent of the global trade for recovered paper, an increase from 2004, when the country accounted for approximately 34 percent of the global trade in recovered paper.

Risi's data shows exports from major producing countries to 62 destination countries for paper, packaging and pulp and recovered paper grades. A global team of Economists based in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia cover RISI's analysis and forecasts.

"Our Bilateral Trade Tables aggregate customs data worldwide with RISI data to provide the only comprehensive source available of country-to-country trade statistics for the global pulp and paper industry" noted Kurt Schaefer, RISI Vice President of Fiber.
