Nova Scotia’s environmental leaders recognized at 12th annual Mobius awards luncheon

Twelve innovative individuals, businesses and organizations were recognized June 2 at the 12th Annual Mobius Environmental Awards luncheon. Organized by the Resource Recovery Fund Board, Inc. (RRFB Nova Scotia) the awards recognize those who are taking a leadership role in reducing waste.

This year’s keynote speaker for the luncheon was Silver Donald Cameron, a celebrated author as well as the host and executive producer of the recently-launched environmental web site TheGreenInterview.com. The focus of Silver Donald’s speech was on the importance of thinking globally and acting locally to protect and enhance our environment.

“This year’s Mobius Environmental Award recipients once again highlight why Nova Scotia is a recognized leader in waste reduction,” says Rick Ramsay, Chair of RRFB Nova Scotia. “Their commitment, as well as the collective efforts of all Nova Scotians, will be the key to meeting the province’s waste disposal goal of 300kg/person/year by 2015.”

The Honourable Sterling Belliveau, Minister of the Environment was also in attendance to congratulate each award recipient and offers words of encouragement to the audience.  "The Mobius Awards nominees and recipients have provided great examples of the work Nova Scotians are doing to reduce waste and further protect our environment," said the Minister. "We all play a role in helping our province be greener, cleaner, and more economically sustainable."  Nominations for the Mobius Environmental Awards were open from March 1 until April 30. The awards luncheon was held today, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Kenneth C. Rowe Heritage Hall located at Pier 21, 1055 Marginal Rd, Halifax. All proceeds from the luncheon were to support the work of Feed Nova Scotia.
