Georgia-Pacific Recycling has launched a brand-new online platform, hubbIT, which is opening the recycling marketplace to more businesses.

As well, the company has also won a Gold Stevie Award in the Sustainability and Climate Protection Services category at the 23rd Annual American Business Awards.

Recycling businesses can boost revenue with hubbIT

Launched in 2023, hubbIT lets smaller manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and other businesses previously unable to access the recycling marketplace, quickly and easily price and sell their recyclable waste. hubbIT's convenient, user-friendly online platform offers real-time, competitive pricing on over 50 grades of recyclable paper, metal, and plastic. In the two years since it launched, hubbIT has gained more than 1,950 users and paid close to $1.2 million collectively for their recyclable waste, diverting more than 8,000 tons — or 16 million pounds — of recyclable materials away from landfills and back into the economy.

With hubbIT, businesses can turn their recyclable waste into a source of revenue. One hubbIT user, a family-owned produce company, paid $1,200 per distribution center per month to have its cardboard waste hauled away. After the company discovered hubbIT, it began making $2,100 per distribution center per month. With three distribution centers, the company turned an annual cost of more than $43,000 into an annual profit of more than $75,000 while also preventing tons of cardboard from going to landfill.

Built and backed by Georgia-Pacific Recycling, hubbIT is an online tool that provides the following:

  • Direct access to Georgia-Pacific Recycling's industry-leading trading, transportation, and logistics network
  • Upfront, 24/7 pricing with no hidden fees making it easy for users to determine the value of their recyclable materials
  • Guarantees contracted suppliers' recyclable materials will always be managed even if the market value drops below $0
  • Ensures recyclable materials sourced through the platform won't go to landfills

"I'm incredibly proud of our team's efforts to break down barriers and expand access to recycling," said Marc Forman, president of Georgia-Pacific Recycling. "This award underscores the critical role recycling plays in strengthening our economy and protecting our environment. By diverting recyclable materials like paper, metal, and plastic away from landfills and back into the economy, we're reducing waste, conserving resources, and demonstrating what it means to be responsible stewards of our planet."
