Convertus expands organic waste processing in Canada with AIM Group acquisition
Convertus and AIM share a common vision of building a sustainable future by creating value from organic waste

Convertus Group, a full-cycle service provider for the treatment and processing of organic waste, has successfully acquired AIM Group of Companies. This expansion marks a major milestone in the waste management industry, bringing together two of the country's most experienced players in organic waste processing. The partnership enhances Convertus' position as an operator of organic waste processing facilities in Canada, marking a significant step toward its goal of becoming a leading processor in North America.
"It gives me great honour and I am extremely proud to announce this significant milestone for Convertus with the acquisition of AIM from Maple Reinders," said Mike Leopold, CEO. "In combining two industry leaders with successful track records, we are solidifying our presence as Canada's largest organic waste processor, allowing us to better serve our customers and fulfill our mission to close the loop and create a sustainable future for all."
Convertus brings value to AIM's vision of a sustainable future
Since its establishment in 2019, Convertus has grown at an incredible pace, more than tripling in size. In 2022, it acquired Envirem Organics, an environmental company specializing in high-quality organic products. This acquisition marked Convertus' entry into the consumer market with its first series of branded bagged compost products. Their growth continued in 2024 with the addition of an operational facility from Freestate Farms in Manassas, Virginia.
Through the acquisition of AIM, Convertus Group will now be a team of over 350 talented individuals, with 19 sites across three countries, five provinces, and two states, processing over 900,000 tonnes of organic waste and producing over 85,000 GJ of RNG and over 550,000 tonnes of high-quality finished compost every year.
AIM brings over 20 years of operational experience, serving some of Canada's largest municipalities, including Calgary, Halifax, and Hamilton. Theo Van Wely, founder of AIM, commented: "Today's announcement marks a significant milestone in our journey. By joining forces with an industry leader whose values of innovation, one team, and commitment seamlessly align with ours, we are entering a new and exciting chapter. This partnership strengthens our ability to serve municipalities, businesses, and communities nationwide. I'm personally committed to supporting a smooth transition and will continue to work closely with the Convertus team to ensure continuity in operations and to pursue future growth for our combined organization."
This venture is not just about creating value and growth, but also about synergy on multiple levels. Convertus and AIM share a common vision to create a more sustainable future, and by combining their strengths, they are better positioned to advance innovative and sustainable solutions.
