Alan Zelunka, who spent his life dedicated to innovation and service in the recycling equipment sector, has passed away June 5, 2024.

Part of the third generation to own and operate Gensco since its founding by his grandfather as General Salvage in 1919, Alan was beloved by those he worked with, his clients in the recycling industry, and others throughout the sector.

Passionate for the industry, Alan specialized in selling recycling processing equipment and machinery parts, but also shared extensive knowledge and expertise to generations of scrap dealers across the continent.

"Alan's warm personality and genuine care for his clients made him one of the most liked and respected individuals in our field. His presence at hundreds of international recycling association meetings and expositions over the decades left an indelible mark on the industry and those who were fortunate enough to meet him," Gensco described in a media statement. "Alan's legacy is not just in the equipment he sold or the deals he made, but in the relationships he built and the trust he earned from his customers and colleagues. His dedication and commitment were second to none, and his contributions helped shape the future of recycling technology and processes."

Alan Zelunka is survived by his wife of 56 years Michelle and children Cheryl, Elyse, Mark, and Jennifer. His son Mark has been working alongside Alan's brothers Sheldon and David, and the senior management team at Gensco, ensuring that Alan's vision and values will continue to guide the company.

May his memory be a blessing.
