The ISRI Board of Directors has approved proposed amendments (changes in bold) to the existing Saves and Scroll specifications at its Winter Board Meeting in Coral Gables, Florida, on February 7, 2024. The ISRI Nonferrous Division approved these changes on October 18, 2023.
Saves
Old zinc die cast scrap
Shall consist of miscellaneous old zinc base die castings, with or without iron and other foreign attachments. Material can include zinc dies/moulds for shoes or other industrial purposes. Must be free of borings, turnings, dross pieces, chunks, melted pieces, and skimmings. All unmeltables, dirt, foreign attachments, and volatile substances (such as rubber, cork, plastic, grease, etc.) are deductible. Material containing in excess of 30 percent iron will not constitute good delivery.

Unsorted zinc die cast scrap
Produced from automobile fragmentizers. Material to contain about 55 percent zinc-bearing scrap. Other nonferrous metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, brass/copper/copper alloys, etc., to be about 40 percent. Insulated copper wire about one percent. Trash, dirt, glass, rubber, oil, iron, not to exceed five percent. Any variations to be sold by special arrangement between buyer and seller.
On or before 30 days following February 15, 2024, any party may appeal ISRI's Board of Director's decision during the open comment period. Said appeal shall state the reason for the appeal and the requested action to be taken.
