Alter Trading acquires Columbus Metal Industries

Acquisition Makes Alter the Largest Metal Recycling Organization in Sate of Nebraska

Alter Trading Corporation, a leading, privately held processor and broker of scrap metal, has announced the purchase of Nebraska-based CMI-TMC Holdings Inc. Alter, an ISO 9001 and 14001 certified corporation, is currently one of the largest scrap metal recycling companies across North America.

“The addition of the six CMI facilities strategically located along the I-80 corridor, including its two shredders (Columbus and Kearney, NE), two auto parts facilities, and its strong team of dedicated employees; make this an excellent addition to Alter’s western region.”  

“This combination of two strong companies expands our processing capabilities and will allow Alter to offer superior service to customers throughout the region and beyond” said Mike Vail, Vice President of Operations.   

With the addition of the CMI recycling locations, Alter Trading will now be the largest metal recycling company in Nebraska, with  10 collection and processing locations in the state and a total of 51 metal recycling facilities in the United States, serving the needs of a broad base of residential, commercial and industrial clients.

  Founded in 1898, Alter, a privately owned, fourth-generation company, is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified. Following this acquisition, Alter says they will have 1,268 employees and operate 51 metal recycling facilities, as well as five trading offices in eight states, along with its  representative sales office in Hong Kong, China.
