"Compost Matters" seminars coming West in February

 The Compost Council of Canada is presenting "Compost Matters" two-day seminars first in Alberta, then in B.C., February 4 & 5, in Vegreville, Alberta, and then February 6 & 7 in Nanaimo, B.C. These sessions are designed as two-day learning and networking forums for the organic residuals recycling industry.    

Starting in Alberta, on Monday, February 4, Compost Matters in Alberta will begin with a Compost Facility Operator Certification "Refresher" and Anaerobic Digestion Facility Tour. This will be followed Tuesday, February 5 with speaker sessions. Alberta presentations will include speakers from the University of Alberta, Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence, City of Calgary, City of Medicine Hat, City of Edmonton, Alberta Environment, Highmark Renewables, and the Biowaste to Energy for Canada Integration Initiative.   

COMPOST Matters in British Columbia runs immediately following the "Compost Matters in Alberta" sessions, February 6th and 7th in Nanaimo.

Tours on Wednesday February 6th will take attendees to the Comox Valley Regional District Biosolids Composting Facility and to the Comox Valley Regional District Compost Education Centre, as well as the Nanaimo Museum.  

B.C. speakers and sessions will include: "Zoning Requirements for Municipal Compost Facilities", Sharon Horsburgh, Regional District of Namaimo; "Affordable Modular Composting Solutions for Remote Sites A local Case Study – Rutherford Creek, Pemberton", Mateo Ocejo, Net Zero Waste; "Harvest Power’s Path Towards Full Capacity", Dieter Geesing, Fraser Richmond Soil & Fibre; "District of Mission’s “Rot Pot” Program Implementation", Jennifer Meier, District of Mission; "Spreading the Word: Compost Education in the Community", Marika Smith, Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre; "Municipal Compost Use for Horticultural Crops in Organic Agriculture: A Potential Target Market", Tom Forge, Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada; "Feasibility of Compost Use for Raspberry Production over the Abbotsford Aquifer", John Paul, Transform Compost Systems; "Degradation of Pesticides in Composting: An Investigation", Dieter Geesing, Fraser Richmond Soil & Fibre.
