21st Century Programming, designers and distributors of ROM, ROM Express, ROM Recycler, ROM Brokerage and ROM Enterprise, as of the start of 2013, have officially launched ROM University, a robust online training and education center for the industry’s leading software solution.

Designed as part of a four-tiered training program, unique to 21st Century Programming, the ROM University platform is a FREE non-instructor lead training program that recyclers who use the ROM software system are now being enrolled in prior to installation of the system at their yard.

“We are absolutely ecstatic about the launch of ROM University. Where other software providers might offer a couple of youtube video tutorials, we’ve designed an entire training program to best support our customers before the software is ever even installed in their yards,” said George Kane, President of 21st Century Programming and the Dean of ROM University.

21st Century Programming says more than 20 companies and 65 trainees are currently enrolled in ROM University, which only began offering its first class in late August of 2012. The University offers majors in Cashiering, General Office Administration, Accounting, Yard Management, Scale Operations and Enterprise Operations with concentrations in installation, cashiering, public scaling, dealer scaling, purchasing, inventory management, operation of peripheral devices and state compliance modules.

Each class is self-guided, consisting of a series of written presentations and narrated video tutorials and takes between 10 and 20 minutes to complete.  A short quiz at the end of each class tests trainees’ comprehension of the lesson and issues certificates for a passing grade of 80% or higher.       Individual classes are grouped together in series. Enforced sequences ensure that prerequisites are met so that students’ knowledge of the system increases as the complexity of the lessons build.

“Serious thought went into the design and implementation of the ROM software system making it the most complete system I have come across in the industry – it truly has made our operators’ job easier,”  said Matt Ulewicz, Rochester Recycling, Rochester, MI.

Ulewicz continued, “The onsite installation and training we received from 21st Century Programming went extremely well, and the online courses made available to me and my staff, through ROM University, really enhanced the overall quality of the training we received.  This kind of multi-tiered training and support really bolstered our confidence in 21st Century Programming’s superior support team and in my opinion makes them a clear leader as a service provider.”

Matt Ulewicz was one of the first recyclers to earn a Certificate of Completion from ROM University.  Students can earn one of three accreditations from ROM University – an Award of Accomplishment, given to trainees who complete all coursework assigned to them; Certificate of Completion – given to trainees who successfully complete and pass all coursework assigned to them in a given concentration area (i.e. installation, accounting, dealers, public, inventory, etc.); or a Diploma of Graduation – given only when a trainee completes entire blocks of concentrations making them an “expert” ROM User in one or more areas of expertise such as yard management, cashiering, scaling, or general office.

40 classes are currently available to ROM University students with another 60 planned for launch through the first quarter of 2013. ROM University also features a Library where ROM users can access up-to-date learning materials such as manuals and workstation cheat-sheets; as well as a FAQ Directory where frequently asked questions about the ROM software system are answered in a video tutorial of two to five minutes in length.

21st Century Programming’s Recycling Operations Manager software system (otherwise known as ROM) is the industry’s number one multilingualized scrap buying and inventory tracking software. Recyclers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico have been using ROM for more than 12 years enabling them to streamline their buyback, accounting, police reporting and shipping operations.
