Ministry of Environment and Climate Change proposes revised regulations for waste diversion programs in Ontario

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, on the Environmental Registry, recently posted a description of proposed regulations under the Waste Diversion Transition Act, 2016 (WDTA) regarding waste diversion programs in Ontario.

These regulations will allow programs (existing stewardship/diversion programs, including blue box, HHW, used tires, and WEEE) to continue to operate under the WDTA until they are wound-up. The proposal notice on the Environmental Registry outlines the proposed changes between the current regulations under the Waste Diversion Act, 2002, and the new proposed regulations under the WDTA. According to The Ministry, these changes are largely administrative and technical in nature.
