Call2Recycle names Canadian processor for lithium battery recycling

Call2Recycle, North America’s leader in consumer battery recycling, recently signed an agreement engaging Toxco-Canada to process Lithium and Lithium Ion batteries for recycling. This contract builds on the partnership that Toxco-Canada already has with Call2Recycle, as a service provider sorting batteries and cellular phones.

Toxco’s facility in Trail, British Columbia is the only facility in the world that offers both primary and secondary (rechargeable) Lithium battery recycling. Call2Recycle’s processing agreement ensures that Toxco-Canada will utilize its unique hydrometallurgical technology to produce lithium and cobalt raw materials.

“We are pleased to work with the Call2Recycle program and are committed to environmental excellence in the recycling of batteries in North America,” said Kathy Bruce, vice president of Toxco-Canada. On April 3, Call2Recycle announced that they have become the first battery recycling program to achieve U.S. EPA-recognized R2 certification (Responsible Recycling Practices Standard – www.r2solutions.org). In approximately the past year, Call2Recycle has collected more than 1.7 million pounds (800,000 kilograms) of batteries in Canada. Visit www.call2recycle.com.
