APR Announces First Annual Plastics Recycling Showcase

Innovations highlighted to support plastics recycling industry

A recently announced program recognizing innovations in product design and technology promoting plastics recycling is accepting nominations through October 31st. The APR Plastics Recycling Showcase, developed by the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers (APR), will focus on recently commercialized innovations developed by APR members that have a positive impact on the ability of a package or container to be recycled. As the leading international trade association representing the plastics recycling industry, APR works to provide leadership for long-term industry growth and vitality. This program is part of APR’s continued effort to address technical challenges facing plastic recyclers.

“We recognize that innovation drives the growth of recycling, and is essential to the success of the plastics recycling industry,” commented John Standish, APR’s Technical Director. “The APR Plastic Recycling Showcase will identify, highlight, and commend the industry's leading innovations developed by APR member companies that support the growth of plastics recycling.”

Possible candidates may include the following types of recently commercialized technology:

  • Packaging Products
  • Processing Equipment
  • Recycling Process Step
  • Bale Capability
  • Collection or supply capability for postconsumer plastics
  • PCR products, products with high PCR content, or applications of PCR

“Showcase recipients will be selected by an APR Board appointed selection committee comprised of APR members that represent a variety of roles within the value chain,” stated Steve Alexander, APR’s Executive Director. Recipients will be recognized during The APR Technical Forum held in conjunction with the Plastics Recycling Conference on February 1st, 2016 in New Orleans.

Showcase innovations will be highlighted during each APR meeting, at the APR Booth during the 2016 Plastic Recycling Conference, and during other trade shows throughout the year. They will also be featured on the APR website and an APR Educational Web Seminar.
