Liebherr’s new generation of midsize and large wheel loaders, presented to North America at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014, includes an L 542 recycling build, an L 556 standard build and an L 580 industrial/forestry build.
The L 542 recycling build Tier 4i / stage IIIB loader, exhibited this year at Conexpo-Con/Agg 2014, achieves a tipping load of 8,650 kg (19,070 pounds) at an operating weight of 16,600 kg (36,600 pounds). The machine is equipped with a 2.5 cubic metre (3.3-cubic-yard) bucket, with hydraulic clamp designed especially for waste handling, and is driven by a 161-hp / 120 kW diesel engine. The L 542 includes, among other features, a Top Air pre-cleaner, reversible fan drive, fluff trap and a large-mesh radiator. Units are also equipped with tilt cylinder protection, chassis protection as well as a front windshield guard.
Liebherr says all of their new generation midsize loaders have been optimized for increased efficiency and safety, which has led to improved performance and stability, and higher power hydraulic ratings and engine output. Plus, the diesel engine on these machines has been rotated 90 degrees, allowing ground-level access to all maintenance points.
