Eddy current separators suitable for PET recycling

Goudsmit Magnetic Systems has developed a 1,000 mm eddy current separator, suitable for aluminum separation from plastic Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) flakes.

According to Goudsmit, this unit features an off-centre, extra strong magnet rotor that achieves a high rotational frequency as well as a super sharp guided vane. This ensures that the separator can process a relatively high capacity and also removes small aluminum particles from the flow. The iron particles are thrown out in advance by a powerful magnetic drum, and PET-flakes are ground small and flat, with a dimension smaller than 10 mm. The iron and aluminum particles are also reduced with the reduction of the flakes.

Also introduced by Goudsmit, their next generation of eddy current separator for “SuperFines.” The company says particles starting from 0.5 mm can be separated, and the technology uses a 36HI-pole magneto generator (36 pole pairs / high intensity) and is capable of complete de-ironization of materials.
