NEW COURSE BEING OFFERED
The US Composting Council (USCC) is also introducing a new course where compost facility operators and managers and those that serve the composting industry can get in-depth training on running a successful compost facility. The first opportunity to take the new week-long course will be Feb 22-26, 2010, in Davis, California.

The course, Compost Operations Training, will include units on Compost Biology, Key Process Controls, Odor Management, Pollution Prevention, and Regulatory Compliance, among others.  In addition to traditional lectures with leading industry experts, the training includes opportunities to “put theory into practice” by having teams of student build and monitor mini-piles and taking them to local working compost facilities.

“Compost sites, technology and regulations are all getting more complex,” explained Frank Franciosi, USCC Treasurer and co-chair of the Professional Credentials Committee, which oversees the training program development. “As the only organization that is dedicated to serving the composting industry, it was really our responsibility to provide more educational opportunities for composters”.

“This is just the beginning,” continues Franciosi. “we’ve had inquiries from New York, Georgia and other states about hosting this course.  In the future we envision having an array of advanced and short courses in addition to this core course.  This will feed into our Professional Composter certification program, which we plan on launching in January 2011.”
