UV/IR flame detectors

Sierra Monitor Corporation now offers Model 3600-L/LB UV/IR Optical flame detectors with ATEX approval. The 3600-L/LB, used to monitor for flames from gasoline, methane, heptanes, ethanol, diesel fuel and other sources, uses a UV/IR dual sensor to detect the radiant energy of flames in a short wave section of both the ultraviolet and infrared portions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

The signals from both sensors are analyzed for frequency, intensity and duration. Simultaneous detection in both the UV and IR sensors triggers an alarm signal and counters false alarms.

This technology is ideal for use in waste and recycling facilities, where flames can be generated from a variety of materials ranging from paper products to polypropylene pellets and paints.

Key features of the SIL-2 rated 3600-L/LB UV/IR Flame Detector include: high speed response of 150 m/sec; a heated window for operation in harsh environments; multiple outputs; and reliability with a minimum of 150,000 hours MTBF. Units are also user programmable via HART, and include an automatic Built-in Test (BIT) on the LB model to assure continued reliable operation.
