Waste and recycling collection features added to Navistar vocational trucks

In 2010, Navistar added waste collection features for their International, DuraStar and International WorkStar vocational trucks. According to the company, the features were added in light of the fact that waste and recyclables collection requires tough trucks that can withstand as many as 900 stops a day, landfill operations on uneven terrain, large payloads and a strenuous operating environment.

New features from Navistar include a comfortable cab air suspension system (standard on WorkStar, optional on DuraStar) and a double-sided galvanized steel cab. Updated cab ergonomics and stair-step entry/exit increase driver productivity and reduce driver fatigue. Both the WorkStar and DuraStar can be specified to accommodate stand-up, right-hand drive (SRD) configurations, and with the DuraStar’s sloped hood, these conversions work especially well, giving operators outstanding visibility.

Other key features include: a cooling system mounted above the frame rail, which not only protects the radiator in off-highway environments, such as landfills and transfer stations, but also allows for front-end power take-off mounting without having to put a hole in the radiator; excellent visibility; standard, wide-track front axles; 2010 MaxxForce engines specified for the waste and recyclables collection industry; MaxxForce Advanced EGR emissions technology; and a clean and clear chassis for easy body and equipment mounting.
