Addition of ECS to product line gives Bunting ability to provide complete recycling systems

Bunting Magnetics Co. has designed and created a new eddy current separator (ECS) as part of the company’s expanding Material Handling product line. According to Bunting, their ECS product features an innovative rotor which maximizes gauss intensity on the belt surface and provides superior separation of non-ferrous materials.

“This addition to our product offering gives us the ability to provide complete systems for recycling operations around the world,” stated Robert J. Bunting, the company’s owner and CEO.

“Beginning with our powerful magnetic separation equipment, Bunting now offers a diverse lineup that includes magnets, metal detectors, conveyors, and magnetic pulleys. From start to finish, we can help our customers achieve a high rate of recovery for recycled material and protect their processing equipment as well.”

The Bunting ECS core is designed to provide a high level of gauss intensity to enhance separation on a wide range of nonferrous materials and part sizes. It is protected with a tough urethane belt and a carbon fiber epoxy shell and can handle everything from aluminum cans to kitchen pots and pans.

“Our clean, low profile streamlined design has been crafted by using advanced magnetic finite element design software to optimize the gauss flux density in the working area above the belt,” said Don Suderman, Bunting Product Manager for Material Handling.

“The combination of a powerful rotor and compact design optimizes the eddy current forces, separation efficiency and product throw.”

Bunting says their ECS attains a high recovery rate and provides users with cleaner materials, which is the bottom line result recyclers look for. Also, the eccentric core is designed to be rotated to provide the most effective amount of product throw based on the material and application being used.

“Our Eddy Current Separator is ideal for multiple recycling industries,” stated Suderman. “This includes plastics, glass, e-Scrap, mixed metals, incineration and auto shredding. For municipal solid waste operations, the ECS can reach a 97 percent recovery rates of aluminum cans from commingled recyclables.” The splitter box on these units can be custom built to accommodate height requirements and features adjustable side closures and an adjustable divider vane. This allows users to control the direction of product flow. There are also side extenders on the splitter box to widen its range.

A maintenance friendly design – built to last
The efficient design of this new ECS includes a drop down side panel which can easily be lowered by one person for quick and easy belt changes using only one tool. These units also include a rubber lagged inverter-duty motorized drive pulley at the in-feed which provides high levels of driving force, variable speed and a clean, out-of-the-way design. It provides a variable 100 to 300 fpm belt speed to maximize separation.

Additionally, these separators feature a high-quality urethane endless belt with 1.5-inch urethane flexwall and three sweeper cleats to help kick off ferrous contamination. In addition to the flexwall, there is a secondary brush seal outside the flexwall which serves as a double seal of protection to prevent material from getting inside the conveyor frame.

Bunting eddy current separators are available in four sizes from 24-inch through 60-inch widths, are 96 inches long and are ideal for use in glass, municipal, plastic, e-scrap and metal recycling industries. Bunting Magnetics
