Tripp Lite goes green in Canada
IT recycling drives in April collect more than 4 tons of e-waste

In late April, Tripp Lite (www.tripplite.com), a world-leading manufacturer of power protection equipment, came together with TechnoPlanet, Nitro IT Business Solutions, Frontier PC and Telecom Computer to host several ‘My Green IT Day’ recycling events throughout Canada. During these events, the company says, over four tons of ‘e-Waste’, such as monitors, laptops, printers, cell phones, and other obsolete IT equipment were collected and recycled.
“From the adoption of both the RoHS and WEEE directives to our constant search for more green materials to use in our packaging and batteries, Tripp Lite is always looking for ways to become more earth-friendly," said Eric Diehl, VP of sales, Canada.
"When we were approached with the opportunity to participate as a sponsor in ‘My Green IT Day’ we knew it would be a perfect match. Social responsibility is often overlooked when it comes to the bottom line, so it was a great and pleasant surprise that so many in the Information Technology community came out to support our efforts to help make the industry a little greener.”
While all of the Tripp Lite sponsored recycling events were successful, the Nitro IT Business Solutions team collected an impressive 6,376 pounds during their one day event.
"Since the beginning of Nitro, we have strived to be an environmentally conscious company." stated Larry Poirier, CEO and Co-founder of Nitro IT Business Solutions.
"What makes all of us especially proud is the overwhelming support of the business community that took part in Nitro’s e-waste initiative. In a world where everything is made easy, loading a car or truck with old equipment and delivering it to our drop off site required effort –– yet so many companies took the initiative, it makes us proud to be a part of such a caring business community."
IT recycling has become an important issue in the last decade says Tripp Lite. With the rapid advancement of technology, IT devices are discarded and replaced more hastily than ever, consuming finite landfill space at an alarming rate.
According to the UN Environment Program, the worldwide total for e-waste (consumer electronic and IT equipment) could be 50 million tons per year. Many of these items, such as batteries, can be toxic to the earth if disposed of incorrectly. For these reasons, the company says, it is imperative that we begin to increase recycling efforts.
“While four tons seems small in scale to the over 50 million tons of e-waste discarded throughout the world yearly, we at Tripp Lite feel that it is a step in the right direction," said Christy Prosapio, Tripp Lite International Marketing Manager. "We hope that together with our partners we have managed to set an example that our community will continue to follow”
