Waste - The Social Context Conference coming in May

The Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to facilitating research, technology development, education and training in waste management, has announced its third conference: Waste - The Social Context 2011: People, Policies, Persuasion and Payoffs.

According to the organization, this conference will bring together researchers and practitioners from a wide variety of disciplines to discuss the social aspects of wastewater and waste management from May 8-11. More than 40 papers will be presented from international delegates ranging in topics that relate to and affect the social context of waste management.

The event is an opportunity for delegates from around the world to meet and to present research in a variety of disciplines contributing to innovative solutions in sustainable waste management. Delegates will include government officials and regulators, urban planners, corporate managers, social scientists, engineers, students, educators, consultants and members of the public who are interested in our environment.

New for this year, and due to popular demand, a limited number of one-day registrations are being accepted. Attendees can come Monday or Tuesday for $299. Tickets to Monday night's delegate banquet ($75) and Wednesday facility tours ($50) can be purchased separately.

Also this year, in conjunction with the conference is the Reel Waste Film Festival - screening entertaining and enlightening movies and documentaries that will make you laugh and cry, and step up your own conservation and reduce/reuse/recycling efforts. Individual movie tickets and Festival passes can be purchased online at reelwaste.com.
