Sorting systems installed
Waste Management Davis Street, in San Lean-dro, California recently purchased equipment from Van Dyk Baler for a retrofit of its existing single stream system. Implementing two TiTech Optical Sorting units (shown right) to automatically sort PET and HDPE and provide an increased recovery of fibre from commingled material off the existing angled screen, the system will also minimize labour required on manual post sort, and increase recovery rates for PET, HDPE col-our and natural, and #3 to #7 plastics. The system is scheduled to be installed by this spring.

Vista Fibres/Mid America Recycling, a subsidiary of Greenstar North America recently purchased a 50 ton per hour Bollegraaf single-stream system featuring a Bollegraaf HBC-120 baler, a Bolle-graaf HBC-140 baler, eight Lubo Screens and seven TiTech Optical Sorters. The single stream system will process the recyclables for the city of San Antonio, Texas. Installation will start this summer. A third recent installation involves NURRC/Coca-Cola Company which purchased a turnkey PET sorting system for what will be the world’s largest bottle-to-bottle recycling plant, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The plant will feature Bollegraaf Recycling and TiTech Optical Sorting equipment to sort clear PET out of pre-sorted PET bales. The system is designed to require minimal manual labour and will utilize the latest TiTech Optical Sorting technology to achieve the high purity goal needed to produce recycled bottles. The plant in Spartanburg will produce approximately 100 million pounds of food-grade recycled PET plastic for reuse each year.
