Customer feedback based on proven designs is shaping the latest wood waste processing machines

Multiple major manufacturers of horizontal grinders have released new models in 2018. HOGS, as they are sometimes called (HOrizontal GrinderS), are unquestionably the workhorse of the wood recycling industry and are a key piece of equipment for composters, land clearing contractors and biomass-for-energy producers, as well as C&D and MSW processors, where in both cases, wood and other organics are part of a mixed stream of materials. The latest model horizontal grinders feature lighter weights with higher production, increased transportability and site mobility, diesel, hybrid and fully electric power options, along with sophisticated controls systems, and ease of use and maintenance for operators and owners. This article looks at the latest horizontal grinder models and updates from Morbark, CW Mill, Rotochopper, CBI, Diamond Z, Bandit, Vermeer, Precision Husky, and Peterson Pacific.

McCloskey holds crushing and screening demos at dealer open day event in Northern Ireland

​New Brokk 170 offers 15 percent more power while retaining compact build

Brokk, the manufacturer of remote-controlled demolition machines, has introduced the Brokk 170. With SmartPower – the company's signature intelligent power management system – the new machine offers 15 percent more power than its predecessor, the Brokk 160, but retains the same compact dimensions. The Brokk 170 is one of four new next generation Brokk remote-controlled demolition machines Brokk is launching at World of Concrete 2019 at booth C4249 in Las Vegas.

F-Class portable plant from Haver & Boecker includes new technologies

Haver & Boecker has launched the Tyler F-Class portable plant that includes several new technologies to improve setup time and extend equipment longevity in quarry and mining operations. The portable plant features a new custom-built chassis equipped with six hydraulic run-on jacks that quickly level the plant, eliminating the need for cribbing. The run-on jacks also ensure the chassis stays level during operation, which minimizes equipment wear. 

New tracked conveyors introduced by Superior

Superior Industries Inc., a U.S. based manufacturer and global supplier of bulk material processing and handling systems, says it's ready to debut two new tracked conveyor models. Joining the manufacturer's top-selling line of portable conveying solutions are a 75-foot (23m) tracked stacker and an 8-by-16-foot (2.4 x 4.9m) tracked feed hopper.

Need to recycle highlighted at Circular Driven Economy Symposium 2018

Delegates from all over the world joined together at the inaugural Circular Driven Economy Symposium in London on the 18th - 19th September, to learn more about the opportunities in recovered construction and demolition waste material (C&D waste). Speakers from research bodies like SINTEF, academic institutions like Queen's University Belfast, construction and manufacturing firms like LafargeHolcim and Mapei, and the European Commission all provided plenty for delegates to think about. 

CBI & Ecotec demonstrate latest equipment at Factory Forum

Industry professionals from around the world gathered in Newton, New Hampshire, week of  October 1st, for the 2018 CBI and Ecotec Factory Forum. CBI's expanded on-site demo arena included live demos of twelve machines from the CBI and Ecotec product lines, including the all-new 6800CT Horizontal Grinder and Phoenix 1600 Trommel Screen.

New Rockster wind sifter RVB1700 designed to "blow away" impurities

Austria-based company Rockster Recycler GmbH has developed a wind sifter for their mobile crushers. With relatively little effort, final products produced can be significantly increased in value. Partially unavoidable contamination in crushed materials are simply "blown away." The wind sifter RVB1700 separates non-mineral components, including paper, wood or  foils, from crushed material. This results in a cleaner and higher quality final product, whereby non-mineral substances are separated from mineral substances.

Kinshofer updates D-Series demolition and sorting grapples

Kinshofer offers its D-Series grapples with a new light, compact and flexible shell, ideal for sorting and demolition. The attachments feature 360-degree endless rotation for precise positioning to give construction, demolition and recycling contractors optimal control when grabbing materials. D-series grapples are available for 4,400-pound (2-ton) to 176,000-pound (80-ton) excavators.

New orange-peel grapples from Cat designed for a range of applications

The new Cat GSH420 and GSH520 orange-peel grapples, replacing the GSH15B Series grapples, are designed for a wide range of applications, including handling shredded scrap, such as long structural beams and car bodies; handling rocks at construction sites; and waste at recycling and transfer stations. The performance and efficiency of the new Cat grapples help waste-handling operations, in particular, meet the challenges of increased environmental regulation, growing pressure to recycle a mix of materials, and stringent budgets.

Terex EvoQuip to demo new Colt 1000 scalping screen at Hillhead 2018

Terex EvoQuip is set to launch its latest innovation – the Colt 1000 scalping screen – at the 2018 Hillhead Exhibition, taking place from June 26 to 28 in the U.K. (stand L4). Building upon the success of the Colt 600 and Colt 800, the COLT 1000 is the largest screen in the portfolio and is capable of processing up to 360 tph (403us tph), depending on application. 

Calgary’s ECCO Recycling successfully integrates commercial single-stream processing into existing C&D MRF footprint

When Calgary-based ECCO Recycling decided to grow its business, it did so by taking on the processing of single stream materials - mixed plastics, paper, OCC, metals, and other materials - from both residential and commercial sources. What made that effort more challenging than most, however, was the decision to add their single-stream processing capability within their existing, high production C&D MRF footprint. 

New ALLU App, Transformer Series range to be on display at Hillhead 2018

Finland-based ALLU, Inc. is set to show the company's latest technological and product innovations at the upcoming Hillhead UK 2018 event, held from the 26th to 28th of June in Buxton, Derbyshire, England. The company recently introduced a new Mobile App, and will showcase their range of Transformer Series mounted buckets, which screen, crush, pulverize, aerate, blend, mix, separate, feed and load materials, in applications including quarrying, mining, contruction, soil, C&D, waste and organics recycling.

​Bandit Industries announces shift to 100 percent employee ownership

Bandit Industries owners Mike Morey Sr., Dianne Morey and Jerry Morey announced on June 7 that they would sell 100 percent of the company to their employees in an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP).  Under the ESOP, Bandit will retain its current leadership and key management personnel will remain in place. It will also allow Bandit to always remain Bandit.

Superior Industries sets dealer open house for August

Superior Industries, Inc., a U.S. based manufacturer and global supplier of bulk material processing and handling systems, says it's planning a dealer open house at its home factory in Morris, Minnesota. Known as IGNITE18, the two-day event is open to the company's equipment dealers of crushing, washing, screening and/or conveying equipment. IGNITE18 is scheduled on August 28-29, 2018.
