The iTrans DS2 Docking Station is the world’s first system that automates calibration, record-keeping and instrument diagnostics for fixed-point gas monitors, according to its manufacturer. Until now, these functions had to be manually performed by a field technician carrying cylinders of gas around to each sensor in a facility. With sensors in hard to reach places, technicians faced additional hazards from climbing ladders, going over pipe racks, or avoiding other obstacles. These and other complications have made it difficult for companies to follow industry best practices for routine testing and calibration of their fixed-point gas monitors.

The Au-toAir cutoff gate is a double win in energy and equipment-cost savings for any shop with a central collection system for dust, fumes or mists serving intermittently operated machines. The AutoAire gate automatically opens needed duct branches when a machine is turned on, while closing off inactive branches and machines. This fully utilizes the pick-up power of a collection system by applying as much vacuum as possible, only when and where needed, allowing a smaller fan – with smaller energy bill – to handle a system with many branches. AutoAire gates often “conserve” capital equipment costs, too. They allow sizing of the collector system based on the true usage, rather than the total requirement. This can significantly reduce the size and cost of the system. AutoAir gates may also eliminate the need to purchase a larger collection unit as a plant adds branches to a duct system over time.

The Mi-croFID flame ionization detector offers this capability in a portable and easy to operate instrument. Featuring flame ionization detection (FID) technology, the Mi-croFID measures methane gas accurately and quickly. A single tutor key prompts the operator through the basic operations, and critical data is displayed in less than three seconds. Further, the MicroFID provides datalogging capability so readings can be stored in the instrument and downloaded to a computer for subsequent analysis and recordkeeping purposes. Non-methane hydrocarbon readings are performed with the simple addition of a snap-on charcoal filter capsule. The MicroFID meets and exceeds the requirements for EPA Federal Reference Method 21 for fugitive gas emissions.
GreenCert is a framework that enables quantification, verification, analysis of uncertainty and audit and compliance reporting for GHG-related risks and measures including greenhouse gas reductions, removals, avoidance and carbon offsets. While there are several organizations around the globe that have some form of carbon calculator or monitoring tool, GreenCert is different: more comprehensive, more scientific, more scalable, and more accurate. The system registers carbon sources, ingests all GHG-relevant data provided by clients or sensors at client locations, and ensures the data chain of custody. GreenCert will calculate the GHG baseline footprint and any GHG emission reductions/removals/avoidance, and outputs the measurements in various views and reports. The outputs are transparent, easily verifiable, reproducible and scientifically defensible.

The Region of Durham, immediately east of Toronto, is experiencing growing demands for water and energy related to the significant economic development and population growth in the region. In an effort to manage this growth more efficiently, the region, in conjunction with Tribute Communities, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), completed a project to quantify the potential savings that water, energy, gas, and CO2 could be achieved if home builders began including efficient fixtures, appliances, and landscape designs in their new home packages.
In most buildings, the quality of the air we breathe depends on mechanical systems that are designed to ventilate and dilute pollutants in accordance with established engineering principles. Increasingly, concerns are being raised about the effectiveness of these methods to provide acceptable indoor air quality. There are also large gaps in our knowledge about the correlation between indoor air quality and the health of occupants.

For gas plant, transmission stations, gathering systems, turbine fuel gas, and gas inlets to chemical and petrochemical plants, AMISTCO horizontal double barrel and/or vertical filter separators provide efficient solid and liquid removal in applications with high gas capacities. The manufacturer claims the compact two-phase design of these systems and minimal maintenance requirements make them excellent for offshore and other tight- space applications with high gas flow rates. The systems can also serve to clear bottlenecks existing on and offshore processes with a relatively small footprint. The coalescing filter element design removes the bulk liquid and solid particles and then coalesces the fine liquid droplets into larger ones that are removed in the second stage double-pocket vane. The double-pocket vane is very efficient and highly resistant to plugging.
A new compact odour treatment system is available to treat a wide range of air emission flow rates of 15,000 to 75,000 cfm and more. It is based on “non-thermal plasma” technology so it only uses a modest amount of electricity to operate and it never wears out or needs rebuilding. This technology is effective in removing odours from composting, biosolids, manure and other organics. It is also effective in process factories for food, pet, fish, and animal feed odours resulting from process air venting. The system converts the odour, VOCs and complex organic compounds to carbon dioxide and water. Extremely compact, a 15,000 cfm unit can treat the odour in a six-by-six-by six-feet volume. The four-foot high, 1,500 cfm-sized system is portable enough to travel to any site.
The continuous particulate emission monitor and baghouse leak detector incorporates automatic self-checks and signal diagnostics to improve performance and to eliminate manual calibration audits as required by the US-EPA for MACT and CAM regulations of fabric filter dust collectors. When combined with a Halogen Valve gas detection system, you will have a secure facility 24/7.
AAF International, a world-leader in air pollution control products, announces the DuraShield cartridge filter. The material used in the DuraShield cartridge filter is a proprietary high-strength, polyester-reinforced media with a fluorocarbon meltblown outer surface layer that allows AAF to offer an industry-leading, high-efficiency minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) 15 for this type of cartridge filter. The AAF Research and Development Group designed DuraShield as a surface-loading media which achieves optimum particulate release during pulse cleaning. Synthetic fibres used throughout DuraShield media will not disintegrate, unlike some surface-bonded media, and it can withstand the rigours of repeated pulse-cleaning cycles. These outstanding features are coupled with low initial pressure drop and high moisture resistance to set a new benchmark for cartridge filters.
