​Canadian Nuclear Laboratories employs new shredder to convert scrap wood into bulk material for landfill cover​

The Uracco 75 DK mobile shredder uses an all-terrain track system, onsite for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories at the company's landfill, where it reduces the volume of building materials from decommissioning, renovation and new building work.

At the beginning of 2016, Chalk River Laboratories (CRL), Ontario/Canada, which is part of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), put into operation a Lindner Urraco 75 DK mobile shredder. The machine was supplied by Waterloo, Ontario-based Recycling Equipment Canada, Lindner America's authorized Canadian dealer. On site at the company's landfill for non-contaminated waste, which is operated by the CNL's Decommissioning & Waste Management division, the shredder is in permanent use crushing wood, plastics and light materials from demolition, renovation and new building work. On the 40 km² site with around 160 buildings, this debris occurs primarily in the form of pallets, construction timber, trees and brush, asphalt, metal containers, plastic pipes and furniture. Apart from significantly reducing the volume of the waste, the Urraco also assumes the task of preparing the wood fraction into an easily compactible bulk product that can be mixed with regular daily cover material and spread over the working face of the landfill at the end of every working day. In this way, the company complies with the regulation to cover the waste collected during the course of a day with a 150 mm thick layer of wood and soil mixture, thus mitigating the need to bring in earth especially for this purpose.

Polaris single-shaft shredder optimizes one-step processing of refuse-derived fuel

Lindner’s universal Polaris single-shaft shredder has been developed specifically for high-power, one-step processing of untreated household refuse as well as industrial and commercial waste.

The Polaris 2200 and 2800 are two new single-shaft shredders, from Austrian manufacturer Lindner-Recyclingtech, that have been optimized for the cost-efficient, single-step shredding of untreated household refuse as well as industrial and commercial waste. A typical application area is the processing of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) that is used instead of fossil fuels in calciners of cement factories or in thermal power plants. Because Polaris shredders run at a particularly low speed and with correspondingly high torque, their knives cut the input material with enormous power, as required by the single-step process. Type 2200, with a feed opening of 4090 x 3000 mm and a rotor length of 2115 mm, shreds, for example, up to 22 t of commercial and industrial waste per hour. The Polaris 2800, with a feed opening of 4779 x 2370 mm and a rotor length of 2805 mm, achieves a volume of up to 32 t/h. Depending on the choice of screens, the final grain sizes are between 50 mm and 120 mm.

Lindner shredder boosts efficiency in the production of high-grade recycled materials

Micromat Plus 2000 and Erema’s INTAREMA 1714 TVEplus working together at Tivaco.

Belgian plastics recycler Tivaco is converting clean post-industrial scrap into high-grade pellets for demanding applications. On its latest, fully automated line the company is using cutting-edge Austrian/German technology to provide recyclates of the highest possible quality at throughputs of up to 3,800 lbs/h. Cornerstones of this line are a Micromat Plus 2000 shredder from Lindner reSource and a downstream INTAREMA 1714 TVEplus recycling/extrusion line from EREMA. The shredder, which is precisely tailored to the capacity of this extruder, shreds filaments, tapes (raffia), Big Bags or nonwoven fabrics made of polyolefins (PE, PP) to the ideal size for processing in the extruder. Using this preshredding process means that Tivaco has been able to increase the throughput capacity of the INTAREMA system by up to 15% in comparison with direct processing of the unprocessed material.
