Wendt M6090 shredder and non-ferrous separation system sold to Winnipeg's Industrial Metals

At the end of May, WENDT CORPORATION announced the sale of a Model M6090 shredding plant to Industrial Metals. The M6090 is Industrial Metals first automobile shredder and is part of an overall strategy to help their company’s growth and expand their presence within the industry.

Industrial Metals is a third generation, family-owned business that has been serving the scrap metal industry for over 60 years. The company operates two locations in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and is run by Cliff Chisick and his twin sons Dan and Josh Chisick. The new Industrial Metals shredder will be located on an 18-acre site with rail spur access, within city limits.

As Industrial Metals volumes were continuing to increase at both of its locations, the company says interest in purchasing the new shredder arose.

“We felt like a shredder was the next logical step to help grow our business,” says Dan Chisick, Owner. “After doing some research we found that the WENDT M6090 shredder was the best in the market and right sized machine that could handle the tonnage we wanted to shred.”

Industrial Metals plans to increase their volume over time to run the shredder at its maximum capacity. The company will continue to source material from local peddlers, scrap dealers and auto part yards and process a variety of cars, tin, farm material and white goods.

Chisick added, “Ultimately the M6090 was the most cost-effective solution, with its modular features along with an ease and timely installation. These were all factors that contributed to our purchase decision.”

In addition to the purchase of the M6090 shredding plant the company also purchased a single-line non-ferrous plant. The non-ferrous plant will allow the company to extract non-ferrous metals including; zorba, zorba fines, stainless steel as well as create an insulated copper wire package.

“We felt that WENDT offered us additional expertise on the non-ferrous side of the business. They have a team of experts and the best configurations and process to achieve maximum extraction of metal from fluff,” stated Dan Chisick.

Industrial Metals shredder features a 2,500 horsepower DC motor and industry leading Bowe disc rotor. The shredder includes an infeed conveyor, WENDT AutoDriver controls, dual magstand with electromagnetic drums, Z-Box, modular design features including: a pre-fabricated motor enclosure, remote pre-wired e-house and structural steel frame allowing for the shredder to be installed on a flat concrete pad.

“We’ve had a great experience working with WENDT through the entire process thus far,” Dan Chisick commented. “From sales to project management, we’ve been very pleased with our overall experience. We’re excited to help grow our business with the shredder purchase and become more efficient with the way we handle scrap.”

The new shredding and non-ferrous operation is scheduled to be installed and commissioned in the fall of 2014.
